Pharmacy Practice Experience

For the past 2 weeks I have been completing my IPPE (Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience) at a hospital near my home.  This was the first time I had ever been exposed to a hospital pharmacy.  I did not know what to expect but this 2 week experience has given me such a great idea of what it is like to work as a hospital pharmacist!  I've been able to learn about medication safety using Omnicell machines and drug/patient bar code checks, how the hospital medication orders get reviewed, and attend different medical staff meetings.  One of the most memorable moments for me was being able to go to the operating room and check their drug supply.  Fortunately I've never been in an operating room before so I felt like I was stepping into an episode of my favorite medical show!  This has been a really wonderful learning experience and I can't wait for more real-life learning opportunities!
