Kathleen Mayes P’76, PharmD’78
Since 2004, Dr. Kathleen Mayes has served on the board as the alumni representative. Last May she was elected as a full member, and in September 20, 2007, she was further honored when the board voted to establish the Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy in her name. Mayes was the founder of Applied Clinical Communications, Inc., a pharmaceutical consulting firm, and served as its president from 1991 to 2000. She holds two degrees from USP, was the first clinical pharmacist employed by the pharmacy department at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and held leadership positions at Sieber and McIntyre and at Integrated Communications Corporation.

Marvin Samson, Board of Trustees Representative
Marvin Samson is USciences board of trustees chairman and transition leader. A world-renowned leader in injectable manufacturing and delivery systems, Samson has served on the University’s board in numerous capacities since 1991. He is founder and chief executive officer of Samson Medical Technologies, LLC, a company specializing in injectable drug delivery systems and programs for hospital and alternate site pharmacists. A native of Philadelphia, Samson received his BS in chemistry from Temple University. Over the years, his gifts to USciences have supported the Marvin Samson Center for the History of Pharmacy Museum and the Misher Visiting Professorship in the Humanities. In addition, he chaired the University’s most recent capital campaign. In recognition for his commitment to the University’s mission, the Samson College of Health Sciences was named after him in November 2009.
Tiziana Palatucci Fox P’84, PharmD’02, Board of Trustees Representative
Dr. Tiziana Fox is senior director for medical information at Janssen Scientific Affairs, supporting the pharmaceutical companies of Johnson & Johnson in the United States. Dr. Fox joined J&J's consumer sector in the Medical Affairs area of McNeil Consumer Healthcare in 1992. Over the years, she held various positions of increasing responsibility including oversight of medical information, library services, scientific publications, and medical education. Prior to joining J&J, she practiced pharmacy in the community setting. Dr. Fox was instrumental in the establishment of USciences' Barbara Korberly Professorship for women leaders. She has been active in the University's Alumni Association for nearly 20 years, serving numerous roles including president, and is currently a member of the board of trustees.
Leonard S. Jacob, BI'70, HonDSc'08, MD, PhD, Board of Trustees Representative
Since receiving his biology degree from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (now USciences) in 1970, Dr. Leonard S. Jacob has been responsible for developing seven prescribed drugs impacting human health. For the past two decades, he has been an entrepreneur, cofounding the Genaera Corp. and InKine Pharmaceutical Co. Currently, he is Chairman of Antares Pharma Inc., and serves on several "for profit" and "not for profit boards."
Elisabeth Morlino, PhD, Faculty Representative
Dr. Elisabeth Morlino is assistant chair and assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Her research interests include chemical education photochemistry and photobiology. Dr. Morlino currently serves as president of the faculty senate. She received her PhD from Bowling Green State University in photochemical sciences.
Steven L. Sheaffer, P’75 PharmD’78, FASHP, Faculty Representative
Steven L. Sheaffer is associate professor of clinical pharmacy and vice chair for experiential learning in the University’s Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (PCP). Dr. Sheaffer graduated from PCP with his bachelor of science degree in 1975 and his doctor of pharmacy in 1978. He completed a hospital pharmacy residency in 1976 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Crozer Chester Medical Center. His practice and teaching interests include medication safety, emergency preparedness and medication use systems including automation, information systems and pharmacy and therapeutics committees/formulary processes. Dr. Sheaffer served as chair of the House of Delegates and as a presidential officer of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) He is also a past president of the Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists (PSHP). Prior to joining the University in 2001, Dr. Sheaffer served as director of pharmacy within Mercy Health System of Southeastern Pennsylvania. He currently serves on the Board of Mercy Catholic Medical Center.
Stephanie Bean MPT’89, DPT, Alumni Representative
Dr. Stephanie Bean is a physical therapist/office manager for Reading-Berks Physical Therapist Office in Reading, PA. She previously worked as a physical therapist and co-owner of TherapyPro, Inc., a local physical therapy staffing agency. Dr. Bean is the new president of the USciences Alumni Association Board of Directors and the first USciences physical therapist graduate to fill this role. Dr. Bean has been extremely active in the USciences alumni association, dating back to the time of her days as a student. She has served on several committees, including chairperson of the student/alumni activities committee, including treasurer, vice president, and president-elect the past two years.
Siobhan Duffy P’84, BW’05, Alumni Representative
Siobhan Duffy is a safety, epidemiology, registries, and risk management project manager at United BioSource Corporation (UBC) in Blue Bell, PA. Her functional area at UBC consults with pharmaceutical companies to develop Risk Evaluation Mitigation Strategies (REMS), and registries for medications or health conditions. Prior to this position, she worked at Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs in Scientific Publications and at McNeil Consumer and Specialty Pharmacy in Pharmacovigilance. Duffy is a member of the American Pharmacists Association, Drug Information Association, and American Medical Writers Association. She has been actively involved with the USciences Alumni Association board of directors since 2002, and was inducted into the USciences Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
Non-Voting Members
Dr. Peter Miller has been a health care professional for 30 years and has worked in higher education in a variety of roles for 25 years, with the last 18 years at University of the Sciences. He is currently senior vice president and chief of staff, and serves on the President’s Cabinet. He was the University’s first director of academic assessment. His responsibilities include academic and institutional assessment, marketplace analysis and competitive intelligence, strategic planning, institutional accreditation, and support to the University President in a variety of functions. He received his BS degree in physical therapy from New York University, a master of health science degree from Washington University, and a PhD in educational psychology from Temple University. He has completed a certification program in Six Sigma from Villanova University, is active as a peer evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and has recently completed higher education leadership programs at Penn State University and Edgewood College.
Michael Flacco, Jr., PharmD'15, Student Representative
Michael Flacco, Jr., is third-year doctor of pharmacy student. He is heading into his second term as the vice president of academic affairs for the University's Student Government Association. He is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, a student-athlete on the rifle team, and a member of American Pharmacists Association. Flacco was a student ambassador for two years and served on the ambassador committee.Michelle E. Cohen, PhD, Faculty Representative
Dr. Michelle “Mickey” Cohen is an associate professor of occupational therapy and physical therapy as well as an associate dean in Samson College of Health Sciences. An experimental psychologist, Dr. Cohen has made her career doing and teaching applied research. She received a BA in psychology from Arcadia University (Beaver College), her MEd and PhD in educational psychology from Temple University and did post-doctoral training in experimental psychology at Bryn Mawr College. Dr. Cohen has over 30 peer reviewed publications and more than 40 presentations at national conferences. She was the inaugural president of the faculty senate.
Estelle P. Sherrod, Staff Representative
Estelle P. Sherrod is assistant to the dean of USciences’ Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. She started at the University in 1986 in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology before joining the PCP dean’s office in 1998. Prior to USciences, Sherrod was employed as a paralegal and office manager for a law firm in Center City Philadelphia. A graduate of the Philadelphia Biblical University’s Life Long Learning Program (formerly Philadelphia College of the Bible) and Eastern University’s School of Christian Ministry, she also attended Philadelphia Community College. Sherrod is a member of the University’s Staff Assembly.
