Dr. Philip P. Gerbino Farewell

After a combined 44 years as a student, faculty member, and administrator, including the last 16-plus years as president, USciences’ own Dr. Philip P. Gerbino announced his retirement on May 12, 2011. Please take this opportunity to post a personal note and well wishes.
Be sure to include your name in addition to your degree/year if applicable.
Phil..congrats and best of luck. You can look back with pride on a very accomplished tenure. You presided over the university at a time when, under your guidance, it was taken very progressively into the future while still respecting the rich history of the instituion.

Phil,
I just want to congratulate you on a job very well done. You've been a large part of both John's and my PCPS history, it will be difficult to imagine the school without you there. You were encouraging to us as undergraduate students, and again to me as a graduate student, and I try to emulate you with my own students. I certainly hope that I have done justice to your fine example as a teacher. I am grateful for all you have done for pharmacy and the school in particular. Things I won't readily forget: 1) you let me take time to get married in the middle of the Pharm.D. curriculum, then when I asked you about making up that week you encouraged me, with a wry smile, to go worry about something else; and 2) when John and I brought our 3 teens to visit the school, you insisted on giving us a tour of the campus yourself, despite your pressing deadlines. Your generosity of time and incredible talent, and your kindness toward students, will be difficult to replace. Best wishes for your next adventure, and I hope to see you on April 21 at the reunion. Dear Phil - thank you for all you have done for the University of the Sciences, the profession of pharmacy and for me, personally. As my mentor, back when i was in the Pharm D program ('76) my peer when I served on the faculty, and always my friend....I have been in awe of your energy, wisdom and accomplishments. You will be missed- but i am confident that you will apply your experiences and skills in new ways to serve our profession and the healthcare industry. I wish you the best in whatever you undertake and hope you will find time to relax and enjoy life!

Phil,
Congratulations on your pending retirement. Since I haven't hit the lottery yet, I'm working in the outpatient pharmacy of a reginal medical center in the Shenandoah Valley (Augusta Health). I also do some lecturing/consulting to keep busy.
Your name has been an important part of the school for so long, it will be difficult to think about a PCP (USIP) without Phil Gerbino!! I remember having you (and Tom Snader) as instructors many years ago, when you were both freshly minted PharmDs.
Again, congratulations and enjoy your "retirement."

Hi Dr Gerbino,
Just want to say thanks for all your efforts over the years and congratulations on your retirement. Also, I'm just one of the many Phi Delta Chi Alumni that appreciate your time in getting our fraternity up and running again. Tom, Sean, Chris and the the rest of the brothers have a bright future. The guidance you and Mary Kate provided over the past two years is much appreciated and will not be forgotten.
Hope to keep in touch.

Dr. Gerbino,
You will be missed.
I always found you to be an advocate for both me the student and the University as the learning venue.
As I sit hear this moment in my office, I see my diploma from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science hanging on the wall.
The signatures on the bottom may have faded, though the names that form the staple of my experience at PCPS were always G. Victor Rossi & Philip Gerbino.
Thank you for the fond memories, and the pride that I hold for USP, founded in 1821 in Carpenters Hall, Philadelphia, PA.
All the best,
Ken Kossack P’84

Dear Dr. Gerbino,
You have created a lasting example of leadership that I call upon as I address my own professional challenges. Your interactions with me through the newspaper and student government association were inspirational. Thank you for everything you have done for me, the university, and every university student who has walked the campus.
Best of luck, and I hope to hear of your future endeavors.

Phil
Congratulations to you on the fantastic accomplishments as President of PCP&S and now The USciences. You did a great job, and you should be proud. I for one am quite proud of you and for you. It is especially nice to realize that a student a year or so behind me at PCP&S did so well and so much for dear old PCP&S/USciences. Just as I am sure that you remember me as an undergrad, I remember you as well. All of those times when the faculty told us students of the achievements of the students that preceded us, we had the op to do likewise. I can even remember when I was beginning my grad thesis project, seeing each other on campus. I was starting a p’kinetics project in humans and you were initiating the clinical side of Pharmacy to undergrads.
Good luck in your next endeavor Retirements a nice thing, but I cannot imagine you “truly retiring”.
Best wishes,
