PA Bio Award to Dr. Amy Jessop

Pa. BIO hands out awards: Pennsylvania Bio, the trade association representing Pennsylvania’s life science industry, held its annual awards dinner Tuesday night at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The Scientific Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Amy Jessop, assistant professor and Director of HepTREC.

Pennsylvania Bio honors Musser, Tullman and others at 2012 awards: A record 1,022 people turned out for Pennsylvania Bio’s 2012 annual dinner and awards celebration Tuesday night at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Encouraging Patient Rx Compliance

Consider that one-third of patients do not fill their first prescription, and of those who do, only 50 percent continue refilling it six months later, according to Andrew M. Peterson, a pharmacist and dean of Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. “And often times, patients typically do not tell their physician that they stopped taking their medication until either the next visit or an adverse event occurs.”

Expert: Kids unlikely harmed by pharmacy mix-up

The Associated Press reached out on Saturday to see if we had an expert who could talk about the medication mix up in New Jersey. Dan Hussar was readily available to speak with the AP. The AP story he was quoted in resulted in 165 stories around the nation that our clipping service grabbed as well as nearly 600 on hits on Google.

"Fortunately, it's very unlikely that this specific drug would cause any serious or adverse effects when used for only a short periods of time," said Daniel Hussar, a professor with the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at the University of the Sciences.
