Hoops for Humanity raises $380 for G4G!

One of our department’s initiatives is to raise money for and awareness of certain charitable organizations. One that we hold near and dear to our hearts is the Go4Goal Foundation (G4G). Each year we hold our annual Hoops for Humanity in honor of G4G.  We more than doubled last year’s total raising $380.00 for such an amazing cause.

The Gopher Balls captured the championship trophy this year by going undefeated throughout the double elimination 3 on 3 basketball tournament.  The team consisted of tournament MVP Dan Nuzzo (5th Year Pharm D), Mike Larkin (5th Year Pharm D), Matt Pulcini (5th Year Pharm D) and Sean Whalen (5th Year Pharm D).

2010 Femi Memorial 3 on 3 Tournament

On Saturday, March 2010 we hosted our annual Femi Memorial 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament to honor the memory and life of Olufemi “Femi” Ogunkorode.  Femi was a 3rd year Pharm D student, star tennis player and ARC staff member when he passed on March 23, 2006.  He was and will always be part of the ARC family so every year we pay tribute to his life and passion for basketball by hosting this 3 on 3 basketball tournament.  In addition we provide the campus with an exciting event and raise money for the Femi Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Twenty Four (24) teams, Ninety Six (96) participants from all over the Tri-State area, entered to win the prestigious title and cash prize of $250.00.  After sixty (60) games of fierce competition in pool play, twelve (12) teams advanced to the single elimination championship bracket.  Holding true to form what March Madness brings during the NCAA tournament the #11 seed 3 Brothers/2 Others after its first round defeat of the #12 seed Tiger Woods Putt went on to upset the #1, #4 and #2 seeds to win its 2nd consecutive Femi Memorial title.  It was a fantastic day that resulted in us raising $2527.95 for the Femi Memorial Scholarship Fund.   More important we kept Femi’s legacy alive in our minds and hearts.  We are already looking forward to next year’s tournament.

Winner of the Raffles are:

Ipod Touch – Coach David Pauley

Nikkon CoolPix Camera – Jasmine Mencia – 3rd Yr Pharm D

We like to send out a sincere thank you to all the people that participated in the raffles.  Remember it’s not about winning or losing it’s about supporting a worthy cause and keeping Femi’s memories alive.

A Special Thanks to all Our Volunteers!  This tournament would not be successful without their support.
