Stephanie K. Bean MPT’89 is great at juggling. It may take a couple of tries to reach her on the phone, but it’s only because she’s got a full schedule.
Not only is she the president-elect of the USP Alumni Association (and a member of several committees), but she’s taking classes at Temple University for a transitional doctorate in physical therapy. Of course, this is in addition to any late nights she works as office manager at Reading-Berks Physical Therapy, LLC, in Morgantown, Pa., an hour away from Center City Philadelphia.
Bean also manages to squeeze in sailing, a
passion she’s developed over the last
15 years. Introduced to the sport by her
boyfriend, they now sail on his 30-foot
Sea Ray. “It’s his boat, but I seem to do
more of the waxing,” she joked.
Most recently she was elected commodore at the Philadelphia Yacht Club, where the couple are members. In her position she runs the group’s meetings and keeps tabs on committee plans. She says the most fun comes out of the activity committee.
“They organize the cruises where we all go down to the Chesapeake Bay,” she said.
This year’s big sail (or motor if the wind is not cooperating) will be particularly ambitious with plans to take a two-day trip all the way to Washington, D.C.
It’s all a lot of work, but for Bean it’s well worth it.
“The yacht club is supposed to promote safe boating and seamanship, and we do,” she said. “But there’s a lot of fun along the way.”
